Every place I’ve checked out is super pricey and/or for 40 plus people. I just want a nice private room somewhere in Manhattan for about 10-15 people to have decent food and drinks and won’t charge me for use of the room. Bonus if there is also pool or karaoke in the room. Thanks!

Last year, I went to a birthday party for my uncle at Marchi’s, 251 East 31st Street. The restaurant (which has been there forever - I remember going there when I was about twelve years old) is in a lovely old brownstone. There is no menu - there are five or six courses - everything is served family style - huge platters of food (see the menu below). There were 20 of us - no karaoke, no pool, but we had a private room. There was no charge for the separate room and I think it cost $40 or $45 per person (this was almost a year ago, so you’d have to double check the price). I don’t know if the wine was included or if it was extra. Everyone was very pleasant and we had a good time. (I think they have more than one private room to accomodate different size parties.

It was all you can drink, but if someone wanted to opt out of that, they could just pay by the drink. They have a really nice downstairs lounge as well. The owners own several other bars, if that location is not what you are looking for.

Last week I went to a party in the back room of Bamboo 52 - on 52nd between 8th & 9th Aves. It was very nice and they have tv’s and music.

Two years ago I had a party in the back room of a place called The Black Door - on West 26th Between 6th & 7th. It was a very cool room and they played great music. However, later in the night anyone could come in and it got pretty crowded.

Do you have an area of the city in mind? There are just so many bars to choose from…it is hard to narrow this down!
